Well for those that arenÂ’t certain whatÂ’s standard and how some of the options might work there are actually a few videos now that those that have ordered might find useful. There might be a few other people can post.

holy smokes. At least bring back the 'favorites' button row... All this taping to change a setting. Curious to know how many of these options will be grayed out while driving making you stop to change it...

jamesbiser wroteAlso, having had a similar UX layout in the Model 3, most of these settings are "set it and forget it" in that you'll go through the lot while parked up and almost never change them again. In videos, etc, it looks daunting but when well executed (as Tesla did) it's really quite natural and intuitive to be able to find things, and set up comprehensively so that you don't have to go back and fiddle laterholy smokes. I don’t see how it’s gonna be better, most legacy OEMs already back pedaled on touchscreen first approach. Tesla is able to do what they do because, well, they’re Tesla and speak to a seemingly niche group of buyers.
I truly think BMW is using this as a test bed to see how much they can remove to increase profits and what they need to bring back for iDrive X.5/11. I can already see that the physical vent dials will be one to bring back. Hopefully the iDrive controller does too.
Admittedly, when I had an iDrive 8 loaner on an i4, I did not like it at all. I loved the EV part, just not the lack of buttons. Still though, very willing to try out iDrive X and get a feel for it. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up owning one(as much as a petrol head I am haha). TBD!

jamesbiser wroteAgree, the vent dials, and in line with other manufacturers, I suspect physical climate buttons will also be back. iDrive controller - I love it, but I think it's dead, current iDrive X isn't designed for it (too many things aren't list/scroll based). But I guess they can do an emergency reverse engineer of at least some functionality.
jamesbiser wroteiDrive X will, AFAIK, be used across the model range for nearly all EV/hybrid/combustion models, including for all versions of the new 3 series - so starting pretty much now. So it won't be an EV/petrolhead thing.Admittedly, when I had an iDrive 8 loaner on an i4, I did not like it at all. I loved the EV part, just not the lack of buttons. I’ve got an i4 on loan currently and it’s a total faff to even change the fan speed levels compared to all the previous BMWs we’ve had. Fabulous graphics I must admit so there’s no doubt I can understand where the air is being directed, but I’m watching the road.

Simple, quick and super effective, no need to pull down to then look again to then try to press the right spot. Real shame something that was a great innovation has been taken any, I can live with the dial going but the quick select is a loss that could have been avoided.

This car is for people who are more interested in Gucci bags than cars. Nobody asks for more safety gimmicks, we don’t want them. You know why, because they have nothing to do with safety. Safety is physical button not submenues and screens, endless settings for each driving. Safety is good visibility and good brakes, balanced chassis. That is safety. You are making cars to be more safe when you already have an accident instead making cars not to have accident in first place. And You are doing all you can to put people in position to have accident. Whole my life I drive BMWs and I’m 47 now but I will not buy this monstrosity under any circumstances. This is even worst than cheap chinese fake cars. Good luck with that.

MontyB1 wroteI love them as well in my F34, but my guess is that BMW had the data to prove that only a tiny fraction of drivers ever used them for anything (or even knew they weren't just for radio stations people don't listen to anymore).I’ve said the same, I don’t see why the 7 favorite buttons couldn’t be just below the screen. It also occurred to me yesterday, whilst driving and needing to change the temperature that I still had to look down at the physical controls and take my eye off the road to change it.
We get it, it's not for you.
