svenb wroteI received information that the supplier of a control unit had to be changed. An update now needs to be installed for the new control units. Vehicles with the new control unit are not currently being delivered. Is there a new stop in deliveries due to new software problems? It is said that there is in some countries, and my car that is on its way with the boat has an active recall.
Mine had a software update in factory after being on a quality hold, when it arrived at Immingham, it was again held waiting for the software for new control unit which was available until March 31st

ggalanis wroteI trust BMW to roll out a viable, ready for market EV as much or more than any other manufacturer, but like you I'm happy to let them work out the bugs before I get one. I may roll over to an iX3 in mid-2027, when the growing pains should be in the rearview mirror. From all of us on the north American side , thank you for your sacrifices in dealing with all these new model issues for us so that we hopefully won't have to.
EV Fan wroteI paid my dues when I got my 335, X5 and iX. Only my X4 was an already stable vehicle and just a new model. The only issue the X4 ever had, other than weird nav choices and standard iDrive hiccups (not too bad though), was uneven brake wear between the inside and outside pads, which took 3 years to be very apparent when one side was almost worn out completely while the other had plenty of meat left on it.ggalanis wroteI trust BMW to roll out a viable, ready for market EV as much or more than any other manufacturer, but like you I'm happy to let them work out the bugs before I get one. 1. New software is required, as the control unit from a new manufacturer is incompatible with the previous version.
2. There are currently issues with the charging flap; proper opening and closing cannot be guaranteed.
I also wonder how a new module got into production without being fully tested in either a dev or live like test environment simulating the actual software/firmware/hardware build. That’s a very basic error.
Rubidium wroteWhat a pointless failure point. I was happy that my iX had a manual charging flap, and it required less than one calorie in extra effort during the charge process.Charging flap problems seem to be a challenge for BMW. The i4 had all sorts of trouble with the locking servo failing and needing air bladders put behind the flap to get it to open.
Rubidium wroteThe testing environments exist — production-scale hardware integration just surfaces things no lab fully replicates. A basic error is shipping the wrong part number. This is what happens when a supplier changes mid-programme and reality outpaces the test rig.Charging flap problems seem to be a challenge for BMW. ggalanis wroteExactly, hopefully the initial wave of deliveries will root out the early software issues, though one can expect that for the first model year, there will be at least a couple of trips to the dealer for recalls or software updates that cannot be done OTA. Those choosing to wait for Model Year 2028 will likely encounter a more stable platform (though also increased price, but possibly more options than initially available, such as ventilated seats and adaptive suspensions!).From all of us on the north American side , thank you for your sacrifices in dealing with all these new model issues for us so that we hopefully won't have to.
Production finished over a week ago, but it's been stuck in status 182 for the last 9 days although the genius team are still saying it's scheduled for delivery week of 25th May (My dealer is only an hour from Southampton, so it's not got too far to go once it gets to the UK).
I ordered the car on the 8th September - so it's been a long wait for it!
