Hello all!

Currently checking a lot of offerings for ~1year old X3s.

Biggest difference between two cars which made it to a final check for me is:
Black/Dark Graphite with ventilated seats
Dune Grey without ventilated seats.

As I tried to check thorughly before posting, a lot of people say ventilated seats are a must for „leather“.

Cant compare 1:1 - driving a 3 series with Alcantara/Leather on the sides. Did not feel the need but havent had full „leather“ seats before.

Side Note: Car is in the driveway at home, living in Germany with milder summer (~2months of 80+ degrees).

Curious to get your 2cents
Do the cars have Merino leather?
If not, it isn't real leather but a vinyl fake leather called Veganza.
They have not. Thats why I put the „“ around. It is Veganza.

Greetings from a place I would also call somewhat North :)
I have amber gray merino here in Central Virginia and have been using the ventilation often in the heat we've already had. I use the ventilation in my truck as well which are leather. IMO regardless of the seat fabric I would need the venting if in a hot clime.
If you leave it parked in the sun for a day, you'll regret not choosing the ventilated seats...

Agree. I would say 2 hours in the sun with the windows up.
I have the Dark Graphite version with ventilated Veganza and Alcantara seats. I’ve always had cars with genuine leather, but after reading many comments (which turned out to be misleading), I decided to go with Veganza. In my opinion, while seat ventilation isn’t really necessary with natural leather, it definitely helps with Veganza, because Veganza doesn’t feel like leather at all — it feels more like ordinary rubber. Imagine sitting in hot weather on a rubber seat — that’s what Veganza feels like.
Any claims that synthetic leather is equal to or better than genuine leather are fairy tales — nonsense pushed by eco fanatics. Unfortunately, I fell for it. First and last time. My future cars will have real leather again, unless the left-wing totalitarian European Union completely bans leather upholstery in cars. I live 100 km from Berlin, but in a better country, so we have a similar climate... ;)
OP, based on this input from WarMaker, you probably have a bigger question on your shopping specs. I am very pleased with my Merino.
Thanks for your insights!
Honestly - even though Dune Grey is my favorite color, I would be very upset if I go for it and realize vent seats is a must wirh this fabric.

pgw85706's user avatarpgw85706 Highly doubt it. Like colorful interior although I am sticking to black and merino might be out of my range.
The vent seats are a must no matter the material. I highly recommend them.
I've had ventilated seats on my cars for the past 5 years and they are well worth it. Sometimes they are enough to keep me comfortable without needing to turn on A/C.

With fake leather definitely a must. They simply do not breath and if you’re wearing shorts you will just stick to them.
With merino, it’s slightly less of a necessity but I have them on my car with amber merino and I am constantly running them on low just to keep things a bit cooler on long drives. Definitely recommend not skipping.
I have my ventilated seats on every day. This is a must have for me.
Ventilated are a must!
I have the black Veganza seats without ventilation. Before my X3, the last two cars I owned had ventilated seats and even though I figured I wouldn't miss them, I do.
If I could go back and do over I would have ordered my car from the factory how I wanted it vs. picking something sitting on the lot. I even looked into swapping out the interior to the gray/orange leather but it was obviously stupid expensive.
I have the black merino ventilated in our X3 and black leather ventilated in our Ford F150 truck we’ve had since 2019. Ventilated seats are a bit stiffer but in warmer weather and unshaded parking, cool air is luxurious. I would absolutely insist on ventilated seats with Veganza.
Joining the "ventilated is a must" crowd. Had them in my past 2 cars, and while BMW's aren't the greatest on the market, they do make a huge difference. I have black Merino in my M50.
Interesting. When I ordered mine and asked for input I only got the NO replies and everyone said the vented seats are too stiff.

Generally speaking, forums get responses depending on the wording and timing of the new thread. Unfortunately I didn’t respond to your earlier question that their are naturally stiffer but in this half of the USA ventilated seats are a must.
I'll just say that my first choice of car was a 3 Series Touring, but since I couldn't get ventilated seats (I live in Spain) I ruled it out... fortunately the X3 can get them.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I may be sitting in the "nice to have but not needed" camp.... We have had some hotter days in Germany, and yes the ventilated seats are nice.... however I have found that the cooling effect is not that pronounced and it is accompanied by the very audible sound of a fan on the seat... like I said, it could be a completely different story based on being in a much hotter climate, but here in Germany I would tick it in the nice to have category.....

You're another person mentioning seat fan noise. I don't hear any noise from mine at all, I specifically paid attention to it after reading several comments like that.
Coming back to the cooling topic, I think that besides the ventilated seats, an equally useful or perhaps even more useful feature in this car is the ability to remotely start the climate control and schedule cabin pre-conditioning. On warm days, I set my departure time in the MyBMW app, and I get into a cool car, which is a fantastic feature.
